Going off what Clysmic said, here's a quick verbal explanation to get cannonless every time.

Step 1: Wait for the star to be flat. You know, flat.

Yeah don't even learn how to sideflip wall kick for wild blue; use the cannon and don't learn to drop off the beginning of CCM slide ...in fact just run around and play casually because learning tricks is WAY too hard and time consuming.

it is a beginners guide. bomb clip is something even beginners can pull off with a little practice. but he even says in the tutorial to ground pound the log if you cant get the clip.

I really wish I found this beginner's 16-star guide instead of the one that's posted in the guide section of this site. I wasted way too much time trying to learn bomb clips and star grabs in it.
