well I think VC is one version that the majority of speedrunners don't use, so your competition in it would be a less than say on N64. If the VC was the standard version then it'd have a lot better time than it has now (1:43:22).

Like say the all the exact movements in the current N64 WR at 1:42:41.32 were done on the VC: it would definitely be 1:40 pace (maybe even 1:39 pace) just because the VC is so much faster. But you would have to be at Puncayshun's skill level AND on the VC.

I'm not saying it is impossible but like Joeys said you would pretty much have to go overboard in your speedrunning practice and devote an extremely large amount of time to doing it.
Statistics: Posted by bakedpotato12 — 05 Dec 2014, 06:32

Fucked around with the CCM late route (standard 1st basement, of SSL/HMC/LLL then vanish) to see the best lobby order. Guess what, the route everyone has been using is the fastest one (lelelel). But don't even think about doing Dark World early.
Calculated the total lobby movement time for every single combination of the 3 levels + dw, using the numbers of my chart. Then used a little formula of mine to get the optimal slide points. (BOB is never the first stage bcos wingcap).

The final line of each paragraph is the actual level order. Something simple that no one has done before (if they had, lol, then why do people even wonder about "which 120 route has better castle movement") but that can put an end to the optimal route question once and for all (non LBLJ).
Individual comparisons for each route are irrelevant as long as you have this thing. Knowing how much time you lose/gain by lobby movement becomes basically a math problem.

The video I made and times I wrote are >>>NOT<<< optimized at all. I made them for myself as a reference when comparing routes, and as a "model" if anyone/group of people want to compile the sick lobby movement strats and make an improved version of this chart.
Segments were made using two frames off of the first movement one and last one that mario isn't touching the door.
EDIT: The chart is how much it takes from (line) to (column). Mirror and impossible (DW->UP) times are "0.000"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ9Ac_5PBwQ

I put the chart as a image at the start of the video... sorry, I'm ridiculously illiterate on html or whatever so I can't space this correctly >_< here it is anyway just because why the hell not. Looks better in notepad with "tab" spaces
. . . . . BOB . . CCM . . DW . . .WF . . .JRB . . Slide . . UP . . .BAS
mid->2.769- 2.135 -2.903 -2.269 -2.436 -3.136 -2.035 -1.835
BOB->0.000- 1.335 -1.568 -3.670 -4.404 -3.437 -2.469 -1.502
CCM->1.201-0.000 -2.269 -3.203 -3.904 -4.104 -3.170 -0.934
DW-->1.235- 1.602 -0.000 -3.237 -3.804 -2.870 -0.000 -1.468
WF-->3.904- 3.303 -4.037 -0.000 -1.401 -2.202 -3.070 -0.868
JRB->3.871- 3.303 - 4.271 -1.435 -0.000 -1.735 -3.036 -1.635
min. 4middle(BAS,BAS,Slide,Slide/WC), 2BOB, 1CCM, 1DW, 1WF, 1JRB, 1to UP, 2to slide, 2to BAS

Even with that will people still use routes just based on level preferences? Obviously. But you can at least eliminate the shit movement ones and know the time differences.
Didn't even do "to middle" (with lobby light on) timings, if someone wants to do wingcap after non-slide. Cause that's just dumb. pc.
Statistics: Posted by SpectreXS — 03 Dec 2014, 02:09

It seems like there's no entry in the doc for the text in Snowman's Lost His Head in CCM. I don't know the frames, but on JP the first text has 3 boxes and the second has 2 boxes, while on English the texts each have 1. Unless I've somehow overlooked it in the doc, it seems like JP overall saves less than 2 seconds.
Statistics: Posted by Elminster — 15 Nov 2014, 04:51

I found this a few weeks back and I was suggested to post this here. So here is my log skip time saver in TTM. I am not sure how much time it would save compared to using the log but, I would guess maybe around 3 seconds but, this could be used multiple times in a run to save more time. Warning: Audio is kinda loud.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqiGr0IdCUw

You obviously do not need to use my camera setup that just makes it easier. This has a backup strat and a backup strat for the backup strat. If you do not get enough distance and hit the wall you can just do a 2nd/3rd frame wallkick and drift back to grab the ledge. If you try and do the backup strat and get a first frame you can drift and dive to get to the log to recover.

I am interested in seeing people's thoughts on this time save and optimizing it if possible. :)
Statistics: Posted by Vesne — 10 Oct 2014, 08:16
