Thankyou for this post Vegard, now when I do cannonless I will make sure I'm frame perfect when I leave the bridge in order to grab the star.

Here's a video I made showing that cannonless is a "1-frame trick":

The middle screen gets cannonless, the left screen leaves the bridge 1 frame earlier than the middle, and the right screen leaves the bridge 1 frame later than the middle. It is possible that you can somehow "make up" for when you leave the bridge by moving the joystick forwards or something while you are in the air, but I don't know if that's true or not.

The wall is actually still there, but I made it invisible with a gameshark code to show where exactly the star is.

Oh, and Mario's movement is just 100% up when running across the bridge, then 100% left to leave it.
