n64 + everything is expensive in EU :-(

NTSC n64 with controller: 85 to 125 USD + shipping
SM64 JAP: 10 to 20 USD + shipping
capture card: 8 to 16 USD + shipping
TV: ??? + shipping
cables: ???

It adds up, probably looking at $200 minimum for the full setup.

Yeah no way it's gonna cost that much for n64 and controller unless u buy a hori lmao and also I bought 2 jap sm64 carts for 4 dollars each so I feel like you're way overestimating the price lol

Cap card cost me 50 dollars tho idk if u can actually get a shit one for 10 dollars

having a wiiU but not a N64 is really an issue there...

At first, buy a cheap USB controller, like one of those fake dual shocks, then when you get better or when you get the money, buy the N64 stuff. But do a good search for better prices when you buy them. There's absolutely no point on running this game with keyboard just because you don't have the console.
And, lol, you decided to run this game, you gotta make the proper investment. Or just use emu take it more casually. At least you don't need to get a badass ultra HD capture card + expensive console/game/controller...

That has no notches on the joystick though. Won't it have the same problem as the Wii U gamepad? I mean, that it feels unstable because the joystick doesn't lock into place when you hold a direction.

Then search for a joystick with notches yourself

the logitech 310 that toast linked is a pretty solid controller, used it on emu for like 6 months, never had any issues with the lack of notches
