Gameshark troubles

I've picked up a gameshark 3.0 and it's been working fine, but I cannot get borh harpers code and the in game timer to work together. Harpers code still works but the timer doesn't appear. The other small issue I am facing is that when I try to use harpers reset code along with the reset coin code the game won't start up. Any help is appreciated.

Are you using an expansion pak?
